With the recently committed changes, it is possible to make this
machine boot by doing "prompt" at the SYSLINUX prompt, and telling the
system not to start hotplug _and_ not to start discover.

Starting either hotplug or discover makes the system hang immediately
after loading a USB module. (hotplug and discover both attempt to
load this module -- I think it's usb-uhci, and it's the same place
the system used to crash in linuxrc when I originally filed this
bug.) But the system boots properly if we bypass the USB module
entirely.

After boot, the mouse doesn't work at all, with either XFree86 or gpm
-m /dev/psaux.

Networking does work, and X starts (but can't be used because of the
lack of mouse support).
