	It means mutually independent, or well-separated.  I think the
BBC depends on GAR, as the BBC is built by GAR.

	gar.mk, gar.lib.mk.

	GARNOME is not particularly self-contained.  It has many
predependencies that aren't in the tree, and you need GNOME 1
installed to build GNOME 2 (causing the christchild to weep, etc).

	This is greatly off-topic, but the larger amount of noise you
see is because it takes a lot more work to make qmail do anything.
postfix just silently works, so you don't need much of a "support
community".

	Have a look at the actual source-built distros out there like
gentoo.  I think Aaron Schwarz or someone did a normal distro built
with GAR once.
