We found some individual machines that did not support it. (I can go grep in the archive, but I remember seeing one with my own eyes.) Would you consider that "anecdotal" rather than "quantitative"? KNOPPIX was still using SYSLINUX when I last checked. I think that counts for a lot (KNOPPIX has higher-end hardware requirements than LNX-BBC does, yet presumably still believes that there are significant compatibility problems even at the higher end).
