so far i have had to (from a base debian install) i chose desktop and
'development' tools (or something like that) in the installer (it was
the first and last choices):

had to apt-get install rsync
and had to apt-get install zlib*

..that is all, a re-start (kernel upgrade) cleared temp so have to
start over now :-/
