Do a google search for 'dp83815'. I came up with scads of stuff, including a
driver that looks like it's specifically for that chipset. 

I'd also recommend looking at www.scyld.com. That's Donald Becker's site.
(He's the one who wrote the lion's share of the network drivers in the early days.)

His site used to have drivers for everything imaginable. I either went down the
wrong path, or his selection is much more limited these days, mostly being fixes
to existing drivers or drivers that don't exist anywhere else. I suspect you're supposed
to get the other drivers from another source, such as the kernel source.

The following statements/suggestions may be bogus; I'm busy at the moment, and
don't have time to research it properly:

I believe the lnx-bbc uses the standard kernel, downloaded from kernel.org. That
means it should have the code for the dp83815 module (it might also be called the
natsemi module). You'll have to dig into the Makefile and stuff that compiles the
kernel and change it so that that's one of the modules that gets compiled.

Urrk. I just thought of something. All that applies if you're familiar with CVS, GAR,
and kernel compiling. If not, post to the list and I'll see what advice I can offer. 
(Since I'm getting up to speed on CVS and GAR myself, that may be limited.)

Figure on recompiling the kernel, but that's not that big a deal.

Hello List :)
Now that I can boot a BBC, I need to get networking
to work.  I went into the kernel net modules
directory to modprobe a network driver so I could get
it set up, but the laptop comes with a National
Semiconductor Corp. DP83815 10/100 card.  The closest
to it I saw was the ns83820, but I can't modprobe it.
I tried doing a modprobe on each driver.  Some of the
modules modprobed without any problem, but when I
tested after a successful modprobe with an ifconfig
eth0 192.168.0.1 up and then pinged 192.168.0.2, it
wouldn't ping.  192.168.0.2 is my router, and it does
accept pings on the lan side.  Does anyone know of a
compatible driver that could either be added to a
release of lnx-bbc, or one that already works and I
maybe missed?  (It's possible I may have missed one
working, since my eyes started getting tired halfway
through the process.)  Thanks.
