Wireless USB Wheel Mouse under X

I just finished reading the archives again.  I'm
trying
to get my Micro Innovations wireless USB wheel mouse
working.  When I cat /dev/input/mice I get the
expected
junk whenever I move the mouse, click buttons, etc.
When I change the link for /dev/mouse to point to
/dev/input/mice and run startx, X doesn't recognize
any mouse events.  Is there a place to change the
mouse
X expects to use?  I read somewhere that this isn't
the
normal XFree86 and that it is picky about certain
things.  I looked for an XF86Config file and didn't
see one, so I assume it is a specialized version of X.
If I don't change the link for /dev/mouse, X reads
events from the built-in touch pad just fine.  The
touch pad is a pain, however, as every time i type, my
palm brushes against it, sending the mouse all over
the
place and causing general havok.  I still haven't
gotten networking to work either, but I have
determined
that the correct driver is the natsemi.o provided.
I think it's a problem with either a) discover,
b) dhcp tools, or c) trivial-net-setup.  I noticed
that
there are modules hard coded into the
trivial-net-setup
script and that the natsemi.o isn't one of them.  It
probably isn't the problem, but I thought I'd ask.
Finally, I wanted to mention that the Lexar JumpDrive
Trio (uses SD, MMC, and Memory Stick) USB drive works
fine.  I was able to mount my 64M SD under /dev/sda1
without a snag.  :) It's a nice cheap drive for anyone
interested.  I'll work on narrowing down my networking
issue and see if I can get it to work.  If I can, I
can set up a GAR build system on my SD and build my 
own custom Lnx-BBC disk.  (It'd be nice to have an
IRC client of some sort on the disk, but space is a
premium.)  Thanks for any help and suggestions.
