Yeah, this is exactly what I ran into... If you follow the instructions on the web site exactly, and you download the tarball "with sources" you end up very out of date and things don't even agree with what the rest of the pages claim (like it doesn't build the iso image the page says it does). Either the web pages need some serious clarifying or those tarballs need to be totally rebuilt to something resembling what the web pages claim or (most likely) both. If you include the appropriate CVS meta directories in the tarballs and include the instructions for loging into the CVS server, they will also work to prime the CVS checkout which is exactly what some of us expected and exactly what we didn't get. :-) With all the "great" information on "getting started with GAR" it seems I consistently overlooked the instructions on how to checkout from CVS and had to hunt for it intensely till I found it and followed those instructions INSTEAD of the instructions to download those tarballs. You could add some more explicit instructions on accessing and checking out from the CVS repository on the "getting started with GAR" pages.
