There are some packages which are in the source tree but not included on the CD. If you look in meta/bbc-contents, you should find some information about what is included and, to some extent, why. There are many reasons why a package might be in the source tree but not on the CD. Offhand, they include (1) the package is used to compile the distribution (gcc) (2) the package is too large to fit on our CD (but might be useful to someone creating a distribution for some other medium) (3) the package is of only specialized interest (or only of interest for to people creating a distribution for some other medium or purpose) (4) the package is broken or can't be compiled correctly in our current build environment (5) the package has been superseded or obsoleted by some other package (blackbox by hackedbox) (6) the package is available as a dependency of some other package, but that other package is not included for some other reason (7) the package is a downloadable package (which is not mutually exclusive with the other reasons above) Currently we only have one downloadable package, which you can see if you type "list-packages" on a booted LNX-BBC with networking configured. We can add more in the future by copying them into a particular directory on our web server. -- Seth David Schoen <[email protected]> | Very frankly, I am opposed to people http://www.loyalty.org/~schoen/ | being programmed by others. http://vitanuova.loyalty.org/ | -- Fred Rogers (1928-2003), | 464 U.S. 417, 445 (1984)
