It does read cd-r discs, it is about 3-4 years old
(samsung drive)

for additional help, this is what I get on two compaq
systems (much more scrolled off the screen, this is
all I could write down)-

Now on the MicronPC system with the Samsung CDrom it
errors almost at the end of the setup, here is the
last three lines-

Then the num lock, caps lock and scroll lock led's
flash---pc's locked.
