Do you get a blue LNX-BBC piece of art in blue? If you do, after that do you see text from our startup, or inky blackness, or a wash out to white? Not getting the LNXBBC art would imply framebuffer can't work for you. I believe that the framebuffer modes in the Linux kernel only support VESA 2.0, not VESA 1.2, and that this is kind of rare, but does get run into. If that's what your finding, a newer video card, even from the bargain bin, is probably the real right answer. Getting the LNXBBC art but nothing else would imply some sort of modal problem, and I'd pick one of our other numbered modes. The good news is that there's hope for it. Getting washout white implies that the taken up mode exceeds the boundaries of your monitor ability and you should get a better monitor before continuing, or choose a weaker mode. If your monitor shows nothing and starts to squeal (even very quietly) turn it off PRONTO! It's unhappy and you don't want it to consider leaking magic smoke. It's been literally longer than the lnx-bbc has been around since I've seen that symptom - but I'm being a completist. . | .
