Writing to disks?

I want to write to a Win98 D: drive.

"help" (getting started) says to do

      mount -o remount,rw /mnt/discs/disc0/part5"

but that command reports it cannot find the device.

Using

      mount -o remount,rw /dev/discs/disc0/part5"

seems to work, but is it safe?
