BEFORE YOU GO ANY FURTHER, GO INTO YOUR BIOS AND STEAL 8MB OF MEMORY FOR THE
CARD.  The default setting of 1MB won't cut it for any resolution if you wa=
nt
to run X...unless you like blue.  If your BIOS won't let you steal 8MB of
memory, go to your manufacturer and get a BIOS upgrade (that is, Dell has
upgrades for BIOS's where you don't get the 8MB configuration option).


NB: The latest images have their hickups -- the new version of hackedbox is=
 crap.
It wants to customize itself the first time it starts up, but none of the t=
ools
that it expects to be present are found, so we get a nice grey background
without sourcing the ~/.hackedbox files, nor /share/hackebox/menu.  Firefox=
=20
is on the image, but "mozilla" is still aliased to "MozillaFirebird".  My=
=20
images use the 2.4.26 kernel, which deviates from the "research" branch as
well.

=2E.. there are more issues, but overall the image is stable and functional=
 (and
well over 50MB).  Use at your own risk, and add the rest of the standard=20
disclaimers.

For the i810 support, get the latest clusterboy image from:

so

Boot it up in "normal" mode ("1").  (No framebuffer support.)
When you log in and get a prompt, issue:

  modprobe -a agpgart

(That step probably isn't needed, as i810fb dep's it, but it does no harm.)

Then take a look at /etc/fb.modes for a mode that suits you. =20

Taken from the i810fb HOWTO, you might want to try:

   modprobe i810fb vram=3D2 xres=3D1024 bpp=3D8 hsync1=3D30 hsync2=3D55 vsy=
nc1=3D50 vsync2=3D85 accel=3D0 mtrr=3D1

workstations that I had access to, a simple:

   modprobe -a i810fb
   fbset "1024x768-75"=20

was the magic incantation that set the display appropriately.
