Hi Folks, this is an update release of the new stable versions of the Bluetooth library and the utilities. This release adds support for the A2DP profile to stream high quality audio over Bluetooth. It also allows to create RFCOMM based proxy services to export physical serial ports over Bluetooth. The new A2DP support has been tested with various headsets. It works best with CSR based ones. The Broadcom or Zeevo based headsets have some timing problems. It is acceptable, but from time to time they might produce some gaps. Currently only an ALSA plugin is provided. Some application like xmms and vlc use ALSA in a strange way that is not feasible for virtual sound cards like the A2DP support. Most of the time they work, but from time to time there can be jumps or gaps. Most tests have been done using Beep Media Player or GStreamer based application like Totem, Rhythmbox and Banshee. To use the new A2DP support it needs to be setup once. This still involves some manual steps. The BlueZ Wiki has an audio section that describes this in detail. All package maintainers should be aware of an important change to the handling of service classes. The class of device value has 8 bits that indicate different service classes. These service classes are now set automatically based on the registered SDP records. Any previously set values from hcid.conf will be ignored. So patching hcid.conf with service class values makes no sense anymore.
