Check http://wiki.bluez.org/wiki/Audio. To have my headset working, I just need bluez-utils and I modify my ~/.asoundrc like described. To pair my headset and use it, I use the first python script in the section "Headset profile". Try this : Copy-paste the code and run it (with the command line "python yourfile.py"). In gnome, the system automatically asks for the pin. Since you are running debian, I think your bluez-utils is more updated than the ubuntu one.
