Boot from smartmedia card?

Hi, It seems like the linux 2.4 and up kernels are now able to deal with usb devices, even usb drives, so do you know anyone who has done that, and wouldn't it be fine to be able to use cdlinux to write to a smartmedia card just like to a disk on chip?
