I've been running the 2.4.22-openmosix-2 kernel that I compiled under Red Hat 9 for a couple of years and although it works quite well, it seems to cause some programs that work fine under the Red Hat kernel to core-dump occasionally under openMosix. I decided to try upgrading to the 'latest' stable 2.4 openMosix kernel. This compiles fine using the Red Hat 9 tool-chain (gcc 3.2.2), but fails to compile under Debian Etch, which I am attempting to upgrade our Beowulf to from Red Hat 9. Various errors occur using any of gcc-2.95.4,3.3,3.4,4.0,4.1 available in all versions (stable, testing, unstable) of the Debian repositories. In desperation, I downloaded and bootstrapped gcc-2.95:3 as described in nthe openMosix FAQ, but to no avail: It seems that the problems I had recompiling openMosix under Debian Etch are due to the version of "as" in binutils-2.17-2 (testing). If I 'pin' binutils-2.15-6 (stable) the compile with gcc-2.95:3 works and I get a bootable openMosix kernel. My questions are: 1. Has anyone else recompiled the 2.4.26-openmosix1 kernel under Debian Etch and found the same problem? 2. Would I be better off using Debian Sarge for openMosix? 3. What is the currently recommended tool-chain for recompiling the 2.4.26-openmosix1 kernel under Debian? 4. Has anyone got 2.4 or 2.6 openMosix running under Ubuntu?
