Irfan- A 2.4 kernel was not always stable on hyper threading for starts. OpenMosix in particular did not like hyper threading in the 2.4 series. That said it should still not be reporting excess threads. Which 2.4 kernel are you using, the last official was 2.4.26? You did have not yet provide enough information on your setup for anyone to help.
