newbie question on kernel compatibility for oM

Hi,
Hopefully this will be my first and only dumb question to the openmosix 
mail list.  I just wanted clarification on some issues before I go 
messing with my core kernel installations.

Reading the FAQ and other docs I still find the kernel patch idea 
confusing.  In some places the documentation states that one can just 
install the RPM (or apt-get for Debian).  But in other places there are 
warnings (maybe just my impression?) that you need an appropriate 
"vanilla" kernel.   I would not mind a clear explanation of what 
openMosix patch one can use with what kernel.

My bottom line question is that I have a few Fedora Core systems with 
the 2.6.17 kernel installed, plus a laptop with kernel 
2.6.17-1.2157_1.rhfc5.cubbi_suspend2.  So can I still use the openMosix 
2.6.15 beta binaries or will I have to wait for an openMosix 2.6.17 to 
be released?  Will I need to downgrade my kernels to 2.6.15 for now, and 
how about the minor version number?  Or is it only a matter of using the 
same openMosix patch for each machine in the cluster and the linux 
kernel number is irrelevant provided it is higher then 2.14????

Is it possible to build an openMosix patch for 2.6.17 from source?  
What's gonna bust if I try to install the oM 2.4.26 patch on top of my 
existing 2.6 kernel?
