I started work on linux-2.4.34-om1 because I've bought two new servers with SATA disks on nVidia controllers: The ClusterKnoppix 2.4.27 kernel does support these controllers, but seems to use them in 'compatibility' mode. You can install the ClusterKnoppix kernel into an existing hard disk installation of Ubuntu/Debian. However, I couldn't get it to work reliably after recompiling it without MFS and I wasn't happy about the SATA support so I checked out the 2.4.34 Linux kernel sources from kernel.org. This kernel supports the nVidia SATA controllers properly. I've seen the Gentoo stuff but, to be honest, I don't think it helps if you want to run openMosix under Ubuntu/Debian. Fine if you want to run Gentoo, but our Beowulf cluster runs the linux-2.4.26-om1 kernel under 'biobuntu' (NEBC Bio-Linux4 + Ubuntu 6.06.1 LTS) and I rely on APT...
