My suspicion is it's because more and more software is being written in Java, and without shared memory support it's impossible to migrate these apps. This has become a major issue for my site. Java is becoming a preferred language for the stuff we do. There don't seem to be any SSI clusters out there that migrate Java threads except for JESSICA2, and it's based on an obsolete version of kaffe and no longer seems to be maintained. We're looking at moving to a batch-oriented cluster system such as Condor to get around this type of problem. Java isn't the only modern language that OpenMosix can't handle -- Python apps seem to segfault with great regularity if they're migrated, although they run fine if they're node-locked (and not necessarily to the head node.) I like the transparency of OpenMosix a lot, but it's no good if it can't handle the languages my users need to use.
