Problem with FC5

I attempted to put OpenMosix 2.4.26-1 on a dual Intel P4 box running FC5 and
got upon reboot:

"ide: late registration of driver"
"kernel panic: vfs: unable to mount root fs on 00:00"

Things I've tried:

-- checked and played with the boot loader to make sure that is not the
problem (GRUB)
-- tried non-SMP RPMs

During boot with my good kernel, I get:

"...cannot find /proc/hpc directory"
"...looks like this is not an OpenMosix enabled kernel"

I get this only with the SMP RPM installed; not with any of the other
non-SMP RPMs I tried (/proc/hpc does not exist for these as well).

One hiccup: The RPM installation wanted an older (v2.4) version of "depmod"
-- the closest I could find was for a FC2 distribution. Is this a problem?

I've searched the archives, and found at least one other person encountering
the same problem. This still seems to be an open problem for a common Linux
dist.

Any advice or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Joel DeWitt
