 	My solution for the Electric Meyhem was more or less as follows:


CD Ripping towers --> File Server <---> Cluster

My CDRom towers were setup to rip the CD's into wav's and store them on 
the file server.  In addition to ripping them into wav format, I found a 
small c program called cdid (I think it's on Freshmeat) that would spit 
out the CDID info needed to query freedb.  I wrote that to a text file 
that could be read back later.  Each CD got their own directory (since I 
did not know names it was some combo of what CD drive they were in and 
timestamp) where the wav files and cdid text file were stored.  I also had 
a file which indicated the status of the files in the directory.  When a 
CD was fully ripped the file was updated accordingly... and a finished 
file indicated to the cluster it could start converting the wavs to mp3's.

Once the cluster converted the files to mp3 (and saving them back onto the 
file server in the same directory their wav file counter parts were in) 
then I'd run a script that would read in the cdid info file and then query 
freedb (this script in all honesty was pretty nasty mainly because I did 
not want to use perl modules... big mistake).  From there it was a matter 
of renaming the files and writing the id3 tags.
