Cisco 2970 and VIA Rhine PXE bootstrap problems

Hello, I've just replaced two 3COM 4250T 100Base-T unmanaged switches in an operational openMosix cluster with Cisco 2970's. PXE booting has stopped working now on cluster nodes with VIA Rhine on-board 100Base-T NIC's! The problem is quite specific to VIA Rhine NIC's: The same cluster node will PXE boot off a 3C2000, and other nodes with 3C905's boot correctly. We have anecdotal evidence here of other problems with Cisco 2970 switches dropping DHCP packets from VIA Rhine on-board ethernet NIC's. Has anyone else encountered this? All the 2970's have been reset to factory defaults, and pick up their own IP address from a DHCP server on the cluster head node. Half of the nodes in the cluster have 3C905's and half on-board VIA Rhine NIC's. I've not read anything about a VIA-specific problem in the Cisco 2970 online documentation or found it mentioned in a Google search, so far...
