Chris,

Lots of academic institutions use clusters for scientific calculations
that can range anywhere from simulating binary black hole systems, gene
mapping, to flow-models of domestic vehicles.

NAMD is a chemistry code that works well under openMosix.  Most (99%) of
these codes are MPI and would run on a cluster.

  I have used mine for Video creation/editing/conversion, audio
conversion, spam filtering, a compile farm, render farm for animation.
With an openmosix kerenl I used it to off load various programs to
free resources on my desktop( early versions of gaim used alot of cpu
for animated Icons, and tended to migrate off the master node)
