Hey.

My experience with Perl is that Parallel::Forkmanager  can create
"defunct" processes if you lock up in the forkmanager callbacks. And
since you will want to use PF with perl to make it "cluster-aware",
maybe you should look there.
If the C and Java processes also get defunct... PF is likely not your
problem.
