Problem writing more data

Hi,

when I am trying to write more date - does not matter if it is 1 huge
file or lot of small files - the writing operation hangs.
Like for example output from strace during untaring kernel:

open("drivers/net/irda/girbil-sir.c",
O_WRONLY|O_CREAT|O_EXCL|O_LARGEFILE, 0640) = 4
write(4, "/*******************************"..., 6211 <unfinished ...>

Fortunately Ctrl+C helps.
I have not observed it during the reading. I tested it also with dd
if=/dev/zero of=file.
The same.
Currently I have just one node running and all the disk are local.
The kernel I am now running is last CVS snapshot.

Anyone observed something similar?
Any hints?
