For a two node HA cluster, I think the simplest way would be heartbeat and DRBD. That would give you a single service IP address and data mirroring. In my experience with this config, you can get failover in just a few seconds if the primary node dies. There are lots of ways to make it more complex... Xen, etc., but that might just be making it harder than it needs to be.
