Yup there is virtually no difference between DRBD and DRBD-SSI except for the fact that only DRBD-SSI supports CFS failover in OpenSSI. So you can go to the DRBD user community and see what kind of DRBD mirroring they have done and do the same with DRBD-SSI here. You'd want to use the built-in features of OpenSSI instead of heartbeat to manage the availability of your applications. OpenSSI supports up to 128 nodes per cluster, so you even can do more complex DRBD setups with OpenSSI like run two separate pairs of DRBD-SSI nodes in a four node cluster or three DRBD-SSI pairs in a six node OpenSSI cluster and so on. I myself haven't tested running two DRBD clusters within a four node OpenSSI cluster, but theoretically the code is there in DRBD-SSI to support these kinds of configurations.
