Sorry, I've been very naughty and given you off-the-cuff suggestions
without double checking myself.

After you get the thing running, you'll need to give arguments to
mkinitrd and run mkinitrd by hand -- but not right now.  Also you'll
need to use the correct kernel identifier (3rd token output from uname
-a, which differs from my 32 bit system).

Looking at the install instructions though, for step 10, you only need
to list that module in there.  The system will run mkinitrd with the
correct arguments as part of the install process.  After it's running
and if you add more modules, then that's when you need to run mkinitrd
by hand.  Not until step 17 will the kernel or kernel modules be
installed so it won't be possible to run mkinitrd by hand.  Nor would
you be running the correct, cluster-aware version of mkinitrd.

Sorry for the confusion.

If the thing still can't find the NIC after the install process, I'd
try an old 3com 3c509 style card then just to make sure that it's not
a matter of poor driver support.  I have a number of cards here that
should be supported but OpenSSI is unable to configure the node with
if it boots from.  Hmm, yup, one node here is using an e100 device as
the public interface but is unable to boot from it.  I don't have any
e1000 systems.
