Find dhcpd.proto in /etc/dhcp3/ and edit it so that it logs to
/var/log/daemon.log.  Do that by setting "log-facility" to "daemon":

log-facility daemon;

As far as an exact install procedure, that's a tough one since Debian
changes literally every day.  It amazes me that the Debian install
process works as well as it does.  You're doing the only thing that
can be done -- applying your knowledge of Linux, reading docs, and
asking for help.  Okay, things.

Also, that mkinitrd is superfluous and I was wrong to suggest it.
There's no use in making an initrd before the cluster-aware mkinitrd
is installed, and before the stuff the initrd is built out of is
replaced with cluster-aware counterparts.

As for myself, I've decided that merely using 3com 3c509 cards wasn't
enough.  The GPXE bootloader doesn't reliably (or in some cases, at
all) boot from them.  I've decided, when on the on-board NIC doesn't
work, the only PCI card I can throw in something and get it to
reliably boot is 3c509 and similar cards with boot ROMs on them.
