amd64 port

Our research group is interested in setting up an OpenSSI cluster
which would use several 48-core Dell R815 machines at first, and
possibly be extended to include up to five 12-core Dell PowerEdge 2970
servers, all based on Debian Lenny (we currently have Debian version
5.0.5 installed, and may upgrade to 5.0.8).  We'd like to run the
whole system off of amd64 binaries, since we'll be utilizing large
amounts of processors, memory, and disk space -- well in excess of the
standard limits on a generic 32-bit installation.  However, we were
somewhat concerned by indications from previous messages, such as:

indicating that the 64-bit version is untested and buggy.  When I
looked at the bug tracker on sourceforge, I couldn't see any open bug
reports that appeared specific to 64-bit architectures.

So my question is, are there any current known bugs specific to the
64-bit architecture?  If so, what are they, and what can we do to
solve them?
