static apt for non-Conectiva dists?

I'm wondering if anyone out there has succeeded in getting a working
apt-static RPM similar to what Conectiva has?

I've been able to make static binaries on Fedora Core 2 but they 87% of the
size of Conectiva's, they get a lots of warnings when building and the
resulting binaries corrupt the rpm database...

I would really like to get these working...
