In my opinion it has something to to with the number of packages to install in one call of apt-get upgrade. In the upgrade period for SuSE-9.2 a lot of people reported this error in a german forum. If they splitted the upgrade in more "smaller" ones, all worked fine. If the number of packages to upgrade was greater than 800-1000 rpms, the chance was very good to get this error. So the problem is hard to reproduce, we have to wait for the next major upgrade :( Toni aka oc2pus
