apt wants to downgrade a package. Why?

Greetings.


   I installed a newer autofs rpm on a SLES9 machine manually, using 
"rpm -Uhv ...".  Then I start apt-get to upgrade the system, and it 
suggest that the rpm should be downgraded.  Why is that?  Apparently for 
apt, the version number 4.1.4.lmw1-1 is lower than 4.1.3.lmw5-1.  Since 
"rpm -Uhv" worked when I went from 4.1.3.lmw5-1 to 4.1.4.lmw1-1, rpm is 
not the problem.  /etc/apt/preferences is non existant, to ensure that 
it does not skew apt.
