Apt-rpm's future....

As SMART now exists, I'm curious of the future for apt-rpm. As the project=

lead for PhoeNUX OS, I'm concerned about whether apt-rpm will continue to=20
improve/be supported over the long haul. As it is, I've seen that debian ha=
s=20
a newer version of apt versus apt-rpm (0.6.41). Reason I ask is that we've=
=20
had requests from an ex-debian user to port apt-proxy for our server produc=
t,=20
and if we must move to SMART in the forseeable future, this will be nearly=
=20
impossible, at least in that implementation. Any info about apt's future=20
would be appreciated.
