is to some degree addressed in u-u ver. 1.4 with commit
https://github.com/mvo5/unattended-upgrades/commit/e4d0f0bb17

The commit message mentions that the commit fixes
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=855570 which is now
closed. Maybe #890381 could/should be closed too.
