I've done exactly the following:

 1. Installed a clean virtual machine with Bullseye.
 2. Installed build-essential and devscripts.
 3. Enabled the APT sources for main.
 4. Altered these sources pointing towards Bookworm.
 5. apt-get update && apt-get source openldap
 6. Enabled building the TOTP module (see bug #1023855) (didn't bother
    altering changelog for my own purpose)
 7. Installed additional build requirements.
 8. Wait... wait... wait....
 9. Manually installed using dpkg -i.

In this scenario, it seemed to work like a charm. If you would like, I
could upload the .deb files somewhere, however like I said I didn't
bother altering the changelog.

Thanks again for your work on Debian!
