Well I haven't so far. I may just reinstall the VM with another desktop. Turns out I had been to the URL you sent already but I did more reading there. I tried a lot of things like mask and unmask and starting and stopping different parts of pipewire, including wireplumber. Nothing has worked. I get the normal grub beep, which is coming through the speaker, and choppy speech at the log in window, I use the same username as the password, in instances like this when I don't know which field I'm in, and after I enter the login stuff, it goes silent. Even speaker-test now no longer works over SSH.
