Checksums live images

Dear all:

I happened to notice, and am wondering. Why do the weekly live images
come with MD5 and SHA1 checksums? IIRC, that's since the release of Trixie.

This seems wrong to me as it might lead people to believe those are
secure hashes.

Any thoughts?
