I'd like to apologize for my tone here and in a related merge
request[1] - in both I've replied too bluntly.  Also, if I care about
this issue - which I do - then I think I should carry responsibility
for making progress on it and accepting feedback.

I'll try to adjust the merge request soon (within the next week or so)
to make the phrasing clearer and more comprehensive.
