Suggestion for Debian-EDU

Dear list,

I would like to kiundly introduce an idea, I recently came in my mind. 

As her in Germany ISerrv was chosen for schools (this was a political 
decision!) and I do not like IServ for several reasons, I thought of an 
alternative. There debian-edu came in my mind. 

But IMO there are some disadvantages with debian-edu. First, debian-edu is not 
up-to-date, there is stil no official trixie release. 

Then the clients are aleways forced to work with the main server (Tjener-
server).

And last but not least, software is limited to the debian offers. 

Now my thoughts to it. 

First, I think, the Tjener-server is well for saving data of the pupils and 
administrating teachers.  But the client system should be independent from the 
Tjener server, so that pupils ae able to use it standalone and on every 
computer they want, Thus IMO the learnstick solution from the switzerland 
woule be the best solution. It can be build by the schools themself or even by 
experienced pupils. 

However, the build of the original learnstick is not such easy! But building a 
livefile debian is easy, because it is the same as building a standard debian 
livefile system. For a debian-edu livefile you need to add the debian-edu-meta 
packages to the build-lists. I imagine different build sticks, one for kids, 
one for teenagers and one for students.

However, these debian-edu-sticks lack the options the learnstick-exam have. 
Those options should be implemented, but maybe the original learnstick-exam 
may do for now.

At the moment I am thinking, what such debian-edu stick will need, but at the 
moment everything is just still in theoretical and planning phase.

I am sharing my thoughts here, because maybe someone else likes my idea and 
maybe it will bring debian-edu on generally.
