I haven't tried debian on a routerstation, but on the NanoNote, which is
somewhat similar (mips cpu, u-boot, ships with openwrt).  The NanoNote
people have a wiki page detailing various methods to to run debian on
top of the openwrt kernel:

Some of this might be helpful with the routerstation, too.
