I rebuilt gcc-4.4_4.4.5-8 with GCC_TARGET=powerpc DEB_CROSS=yes (no
DEB_CROSS_NO_BIARCH=yes), it built without a problem, and I just
finished compiling a PPC64 kernel.  Excellent, thanks for the info.

$ powerpc-linux-gnu-gcc-4.4 -print-multi-lib
.;@fPIC@mstrict-align
64;@m64@fPIC@mstrict-align
