Micro coup de pouce pour dév en herbe

'jour la liste.

J'ai besoin de formater le retour d'une boucle for, à peu près comme suit :

	for i in max michel john casimir matthieu martin ;
	do
	printf "%-10s" "$i" "est le prénom" ; echo ""
	done
[/code]

Ceci me renvoit exactement ce que je veux, en terme d'aspect.
Toutefois, je souhaiterais remplacer la longueur du champ (ici 10) par une  
variable.
Après maints tests de syntaxes infructueuses, je m'avoue vaincu ....
