I find it weird that people keep saying "MySQL" when in fact they mean MariaDB. For instance, the latest 9.7.0 LTS release is still in the 9.7 Git branch. So, I don't know that the default "trunk" branch represents, but for sure it's not an indicator of development activity. That said, +1 for retiring default-mysql-*. Bye!
