I don't think it matters for any recent code? Copyright usually expires x years after the authors death, so creation date isn't that relevant. You would need to collect and record the author(s) death dates for which we don't have any standards on how to document those.

I think US law is different for ancient code before some copyright reforms many decades ago, but that is probably not really relevant.
