Package: release.debian.org Severity: normal Tags: bookworm X-Debbugs-Cc: [email protected] Control: affects -1 + src:tzdata User: [email protected] Usertags: pu [ Reason ] Three new upstream version of tzdata have been released since the last update in bookwoorm: - 2025c with a leap second update that has already been done through a patch in debian version 2025b-4+deb13u1 - 2026a with a fix for the transition time for Moldova, and an bump of the leap second list expiration date from 28 June 2026 to 28 December 2026 - 2026b with a change for British Columbia which moved to permanent -07 since 2026-03-08 [ Impact ] The leap second file shipped in the version currently in bookworm will expire on 28 June 2026. There is no leap second added at the end of June so if this update is not accepted, the time will still be correct, but NTP servers using this file usually emit warnings 28 days before the expiration date. [ Tests ] There are no tests for this change. [ Risks ] The risk to import new upstream versions of tzdata are quite low, and is done routinely. The changes from version 2025c and 2026a are already in trixie since the 13.4 point release and the version 2026b is already in testing and sid. [ Checklist ] [x] *all* changes are documented in the d/changelog [x] I reviewed all changes and I approve them [ ] attach debdiff against the package in (old)stable [x] the issue is verified as fixed in unstable [ Changes ] The 2025c, 2026a and 2026b upstream version contains the following changes to past and future timestamps: Since 2022 Moldova has observed EU transition times, that is, it has sprung forward at 03:00, not 02:00, and has fallen back at 04:00, not 03:00. Baja California agreed with California’s DST rules in 1953 and in 1961 through 1975, instead of observing standard time all year. British Columbia moved to permanent -07 on 2026-03-09. [ Other info ] Given version 2026a already got accepted in trixie and given the changes in 2026b are small, I have just uploaded the package.
