I am running late to this discussion, but thought I could share my 
personal thoughts as a data point.

Yes. I attribute it to the teammates and high quality tooling, as well 
as overall stability and quality of Java ecosystem.

data to prove that.

Personally, not.

Roughly half an hour per week. However, I spend most of my time on often 
ill-fated attempts to refresh debian/copyright when attempting to update 
the few large Java packages I maintain.
