Another option (what we do at Tux4Kids) is to set up 
SpamAssassin/Vipul'sRazor. Using this, we manage to filter out MOST (not 
all, but most) spam from lists that allow non-subscriber posts.

For example, so far, this particular item of spam has been caught at 
Tux4Kids, but the following:
http://tux4kids.net/pipermail/tuxtype-dev/2002-April/000029.html

is one that never gets caught.
