Dear Debian Project and SPI,
Please do not comply with California=E2=80=99s AB 1043.
This law demands age verification at the OS level=E2=80=94requiring all ope=
rating system providers to collect user age data and broadcast it via real-=
time API. Debian is decentralized, has no user accounts, no telemetry, no p=
rofit motive; compliance is not just impractical, it=E2=80=99s impossible w=
ithout betraying the principles we love.
Mandating age checks introduces surveillance infrastructure into the OS its=
elf. Forcing Debian to implement this=C2=A0would mean building infrastructu=
re for control, not freedom.
Debian has always stood for software sovereignty.
We ask that you stand firm:
- Reject compliance as it is overreach & invasive- Affirm that free softwar=
e must remain free from state-mandated surveillance
- Protect the integrity of the Debian Social Contract
